What Makes Chaos Rising Different

The fourth Mega Evolution era expansion delivers over 120 cards with a narrative pulled straight from Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

01

Over 120 Cards

86 main cards plus 36 Secret Rares bring the total to 122 unique cards across every rarity tier from Common to Mega Hyper Rare.

Mega Greninja ex leads alongside Mega Floette ex, Mega Pyroar ex, and Mega Dragalge ex. Each brings a distinct play style to the format.

03

Unstable Evolution Mechanic

When you evolve into a Mega Pokémon ex, your turn does not end. Flip a coin—heads, the evolution succeeds and play continues normally. High risk, high reward.

The Unstable Evolution Loop

Chaos Rising reintroduces Mega Evolution with a high-risk, high-reward twist that injects real tension into every match.

01

Build Your Bench

Set up your Basic Pokémon and attach Energy. Prepare the evolution chain that leads to your Mega Pokémon ex.

02

Declare Mega Evolution

Evolve from your Pokémon ex into its Mega form. Unlike previous mechanics, your turn does not end after evolving.

03

Flip the Coin

Heads means the evolution succeeds and you continue your turn as normal. Tails means the evolution fails and the Mega Pokémon ex cannot attack that turn.

04

Exploit the Opening

When the coin lands heads, press your advantage with powerful attacks. The variance forces opponents to play around the uncertainty.

The full story behind the set, its mechanics, and how it connects to Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

The Narrative Behind the Chaos

The narrative framing is pulled straight from the world of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, where the Kalos region's iconic capital is under siege. As chaos spreads through the city streets, Mega Floette ex emerges as the catalyst of destruction, and it falls on Mega Greninja ex to rally the other Mega Evolution Pokémon and push back the darkness before Lumiose falls entirely.

Chaos Rising draws its card pool from the Japanese Ninja Spinner set and introduces the Unstable Evolution mechanic—a coin-flip mechanic that rewards decisive players while keeping opponents on edge. The set features over 20 Trainer cards and more than 35 Pokémon and Trainer cards with special illustrations, making it one of the most visually rich expansions in the Mega Evolution era.

The rarity ladder tops out at the Mega Hyper Rare Mega Greninja ex, the final card in the set and the one generating the most excitement heading into launch. Susumu Maeya's connected trio—Froakie, Frogadier, and Mega Greninja ex—forms a horizontal panorama underwater, at the surface, and in the sunset sky.
